Your Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineer to join the company as a Downstream Engineer II, a key role within the BioContinuum™ Platform Applications & Innovation team. This team is working at bench-scale, leading the evolution and convergence of process, analytical, and digital technologies to pioneer a facility of the future for continuous biomanufacturing. As an integral team member, you will design and execute lab-based experimental work to support the evaluation of innovative downstream technologies and the development of intensified and continuous protein purification processes, including connection of downstream purification trains to perfusion production bioreactors, continuous chromatography and filtration operations, and advanced control methods utilizing next generation sensors.  You will work with your manager and other team members to propose new projects, align objectives and plans with stakeholders, and disseminate key experimental results by supporting internal and external presentations and publications.


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with 2+ years of biotech process development experience; OR Master of Science degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with biotechnology-related coursework or lab experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background and practical hands-on experience with purification and product quality analytical techniques, particularly for CHO cell-based processes and monoclonal antibodies
  • Experience operating small and/or large-scale protein purification systems, including clarification, chromatography, filtration, and other unit operations, including the development of automation and control strategies
  • Experience in statistical design of experiments (DoE) coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to solve problems creatively and contribute to innovation in product and process development
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously to meet project deliverables and timelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present at internal and external meetings and contribute to publication-quality documentation
  • Proven track record as a committed team player with the ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams in a matrixed environment
  • Experience with continuous bioprocessing operations is highly desired
  • Experience with lab-based automation and data processing software such as LabView and MATLAB is a plus
  • Experience with on-line/at-line analytics (ie spectroscopy, HPLC, automated sampling) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotechnology regulatory and quality issues including GMP regulations and QbD principles is a plus
