Your Role:

EMD Serono in Billerica, MA, is hiring an Animal Care Technician III who will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of animal care and welfare to support research and the day-to-day operations of the vivarium.  Incumbent will provide quality husbandry, colony management and technical support to the research staff.  The majority of time will be spent in the vivarium working with rodents. 


This position may include weekend, holiday work and/or overtime.


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Animal Science/Technology, Biology, or other related Scientific discipline with 1+ years’ experience working in an AAALAC accredited animal facility OR
  • Associate’s degree in Laboratory Animal Science/Technology, Biology, or other related Scientific discipline with 3+ years’ experience working in an AAALAC accredited animal facility
  • High School Diploma or GED with 5+ years’ experience working in an AAALAC accredited animal facility


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Rodent colony management experience, including an understanding of breeding schemes, performing tail biopsies, genotyping, record keeping, etc.
  • Proficiency in basic rodent techniques: PO, IP, SQ, IM, IV injections; blood collection via tail and/or submandibular vein, vena cava, cardiac puncture; aseptic surgery technique, euthanasia, necropsy etc.
  • AALAS certification at the LAT desirable
  • Familiarity with good laboratory documentation, understanding of critical timelines, being organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent record management habits and fundamental understanding of documenting intellectual property
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment
