Digitization Process Lead Semiconductor R&D

This position enables the digital transformation strategic initiative for Global Semiconductor R&D by the Digitization of R&D data into a secure and discoverable “data warehouse” that enables data sharing, advanced analytics, and the application of machine learning and augmented intelligence.

In this role you are responsible for the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility. You will develop a detailed work breakdown and project plan to monitor and track progress. You will create and maintain comprehensive project documentation and manage and control the budget of the projects and the project tracking.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing data extraction, transformation, and load processes for all Semiconductor R&D data.
  • Developing and implementing R&D work process changes enabling automated data acquisition and management, previously accomplished manually or in non-digitized formats.
  • Engaging with EL Data Office, IT, or external suppliers to build data systems.
  • Identifying and implementing best practices on data governance and data quality.
  • Supporting R&D teams through effective change management during implementation of Digitization processes.

The Digitization process lead (DPL) serves in an enabling role between R&D and IT/data engineer subject matter experts. To be successful in this role, the DPL must be able to understand the process and business purpose of data used and generated by the highly diverse Semiconductor R&D workgroups.

While not expected to be an expert in every Semiconductor R&D technology, the DPL must be comfortable with learning scientific terminology and concepts, enabling a rapid understanding of R&D group’s workflows, data management, and data use cases.

While not expected to be an expert in database architecture and construction, the DPL must be comfortable with database terminology and structures to enable extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) process development by supporting Data Engineers in the business fields, the Electronics Data Office, and IT. Experience in change management to assist R&D work groups in the successful transformation of work processes required would be beneficial.

In cases where required data are not accessible in a digital format, the DPL will need to coordinate with principal investigators and Lab Automation Engineers (expected new role in R&D) to develop data acquisition capabilities suitable for loading to the “data warehouse.”

Strong project management and communication skills are required. In this role, the DPL will coordinate with the Director of R&D Digitalization Strategy and Innovation, Director of R&D Operations, Technology platform managers, Semiconductor R&D IT Business Partner, and Head of the Electronics Data Office for resourcing and prioritization of Digitization activities within the broader Digitalization and other R&D strategic initiatives.

Who you are:

Must have’s:

  • BS degree with 5+ years of experience or MS with 3+ years’ experience in Chemical Engineering, or related scientific areas
  • Experience in database development, ideally with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process development and implementation
  • Experience of project management in a matrix organization in managing complex technical projects / programs
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good understanding of Digitalization and Connectivity solutions
  • Perform global travel on limited basis (~ 15-20%) post Covid restrictions

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of industry standard Lab terminology
  • Experience in visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) or willingness to learn
  • Experience in digital strategy focused team environment
