Your Role:

 

The Hazardous Waste Technician at MilliporeSigma will efficiently and safely dispose of waste generated from chemical manufacturing and operating groups.  The Technician will collect production and laboratory waste materials generated on-site, determine proper disposal and handling methods for the materials, and will schedule and prepare truckloads of waste for shipment off-site for ultimate disposal. The Technician will work to improve processes, control costs, and correct safety hazards.  This position also requires the Technician to oversee and complete other compliance aspects of EPA-regulated hazardous waste handling activities on-site.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Process, pack and consolidate waste for disposal
  • Follow safe handling procedures to meet government regulations and disposal facility specifications
  • Segregate materials and containers by hazard class to ensure compatibility and EPA and DOT compliance
  • Establish waste profiles
  • Ensure proper container labeling per EPA and DOT regulations
  • Load or transfer waste into van trailers or tankers
  • Assist Operations with cleaning chemically contaminated equipment
  • Maintain monthly and annual records for compliance and reporting 
  • Work hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

 

Physical Attributes:

 

  • Wear appropriate protective gear, (hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes) and other personal protection equipment to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors, or airborne particles
  • Work in a humid, or abnormally hot or cold environment
  • Sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist or crouch for long periods of time
  • Utilize senses to recognize a potential hazardous situation
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and ability to push and pull heavy materials to complete assignment and lift more poundage with assistance
  • Utilize close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus

 

Who You Are:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • HS Diploma or GED with 1+ year vocational training OR Associate’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Healthcare, or other Life Science discipline6+ years of work experience in a manufacturing or production setting with increasing responsibility

         AND

  • 6+ years of work experience in a manufacturing or production setting with increasing responsibility

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Healthcare, or other Life Science discipline AND 2+ years of experience managing waste in a manufacturing or production setting with increasing responsibility
  • Chemical or Life Science industry knowledge
  • Basic math and computer skills; experience with Windows, Word and Excel
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste credentials
  • DOT HazMat Ground Shipper credentials
  • Waste profiling experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS products, including Access
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement solutions
