Your role: In this newly created role, you will be part of the Global Business Development & Alliance Management leadership team. Focusing in New Therapeutic Areas, you will be leading the inorganic growth strategy and executing strategic transactions.  You will work closely with senior management, global business franchises, development, research, BD and colleagues across all functions and regions across the globe to lead deal teams and/or execute transactions of multiple deal structures including in-licensing, co-development/commercial collaborations, combination studies, financing and M&A evaluation. You will coordinate a team of internal and external contributors to enrich our pipeline and commercial portfolio, explore new platform technologies, and expand our footprint in growth markets beyond our existing capabilities.

You will be driving the identification and evaluation of partnering opportunities in such new therapeutic areas, you will lead cross-functional teams and actively manage the generation, assessment and communication of the business cases internally. You will drive alignment on the attractiveness of the opportunity with internal & external experts. Your network, influential skills and leadership gravitas will allow you to negotiate terms with partners, gain internal feedback and approvals from various levels within the company including senior management. You are a quick thinker that translates seamlessly from strategy to execution. You will develop and lead members of the global BD team and define and complement the company’s strategic goals.

 

Who you are:

  • You preferably completed a PhD or MD or another advanced degree in science or engineering, as well as a MBA from a top-level university
  • You gained 10+ years industry experience with 5+ years in a business development function, investment banking with biotech/pharma focus, consulting with biotech/pharma focus or similar
  • You possess a good understanding of pharma late-stage drug development and product commercialization
  • You are able to structure complex opportunity fields to derive a sound partnering strategy and are able to prioritize such leads and execute against them in a complex matrix-environment
  • You are able to conduct fit-for-purpose assessment of opportunities, bridging from strategic fit to scientific assessment for opportunities in various fields / therapeutic areas
  • You possess sound expertise in generating business cases and validating its underlying assumptions
  • You are a strong team leader that utilizes a mix of transactions and transformational leadership skills
  • You possess sound expertise in deal structuring, contractual frameworks, and governance, including structuring equity transactions
  • You have a proven track record of strong negotiation and closing of large, complex, and strategic transactions; you demonstrated approaches to structuring deals that maximizes value for the buyer and the partner as appropriate
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, at presenting findings, summaries, and recommendations to senior management
  • You established a sound network of contacts in key academic institutions, biotechnology, venture capital, investment banks and pharmaceutical companies
  • You are fluent in English (both verbal and written); ability to communicate in additional languages is a plus
