Your Role:

In this role based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, you will be responsible for a talented group of scientists (12+) tasked with the responsibility of developing chemical processes in support of continuous flow manufacturing.  You will focus on designing new chemical manufacturing processes slated for large-scale chemical operations primarily in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, while improving existing chemical processes in an interest of increased safety, quality and finances.  Introduction of new technologies will be critical for demonstrated success in position.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assign lab work to the team to best support client timelines and offer systematic improvements.
  • Coach and develop team members.
  • Identify and develop manufacturing processes (existing and new) with a focus on future growth.
  • Communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
  • Review and suggest improvements for group interactions with QC, marketing, manufacturing, packaging, tech services, other sites, etc.
  • Offer and demonstrate scientific collaboration with other sites and provides technical support to other functions.
  • Identify and develop advancing technologies for development and operations, including platforms including but not limited to PAT, Digitalization, and process automation.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of operations and utilities associated with chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Assess new product candidates and accompanying scientific literature.
  • Establishes and maintains academic and/or industrial contacts.
  • Provides technical content and periodically review marketing information for promoting MilliporeSigma products.
  • Maintains budget and capital control; provides input budget needs to upper management.
  • This position requires minimum 10% travel, domestic and international


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related field required.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in life science or chemistry-related process development.
  • 2+ years experience of managing, coaching, and mentoring people.
  • Broad knowledge of chemical synthesis, pharmaceuticals, and material science.
  • Customer facing experience.
  • Experience with total capital expenditures to advance technologies and brainstorming ideas for such projects.  
  • Clear understanding of operations and utilities used within a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand chemical literature and patents, and their impact on areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 and other relevant quality systems overall goals, implementation and application.
  • Ability to write Operating Procedures or similar documentation.
