Your Role:

This position is within the Organosilane Synthesis Lab of EMD Electronics R&D in Carlsbad, CA. The primary responsibility for this position will be assisting principal chemists to conduct synthesis of organosilicon compounds and lab maintenance. There are possibilities for this person to develop the carrier pathway toward an independent research chemist. The person will need to be an enthusiastic, hands on, results-oriented self-starter.



  • Strong commitment to following Environment, Health & Safety standards.
  • Help the principal chemists to carry out basic synthesis operations, such as apparatus setup, chemical addition, filtration, distillation, vacuum system operation, and sample generation.
  • Follow instructions to synthesize new compounds in regular laboratory scale.
  • Routinely document experiment results using electronic lab notebook software.
  • Maintain and operate various equipment including reactors, rotavapors, distillation apparatus, and analytical instruments.
  • Maintain and clean various containers including glassware and stainless-steel vessels.
  • Maintain and organize laboratory environment for the safe operation of the group.
  • Collaborate with analytical group on the analysis of samples.


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or similar discipline
  • Understanding of general Chemistry and knowledge of experimental methods
  • Experienced in handling hazardous and corrosive chemicals
  • 1+ years of lab experience (academic or industrial)



  • High school diploma or GED
  • Understanding of general Chemistry and knowledge of experimental methods

  • 2+ years of lab experience (academic or industrial)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Organic Chemistry and skilled in carrying out experiments
  • Hands-on experience and/or strong interest in chemical research
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Great interpersonal/teamwork skills and positive attitude
  • Knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety Standards
