Your role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the Cellular and Translational Immunology team of EMD Serono located at our Billerica, MA state of the art research facility. The Associate Scientist will contribute to the discovery of drugs for treating autoimmune diseases. He/she will work collaboratively with a group of scientists to develop and conduct in vitro cell-based assays to further our understanding of human autoimmune diseases and evaluate potential novel drug candidates.

 

He/she will develop and conduct cell-based assays using human primary immune cells or cell lines to support target validation and drug discovery efforts as well as develop complex primary cell co-culture assays to support mechanism of action studies and/or drug candidate screening.  Gene expression or protein analysis will also be a function of this position.  All will be done using lab equipment such as Flow cytometer analyzer and sorter, plate reader, Protein Simple and QPCR-based expression platforms.

 

In addition, the Associate Scientist will be responsible for independently analyzing and interpreting data, trouble-shooting experiments, recording all data accurately in an Electronic Laboratory Notebook and maintaining records per company policy and legal requirements.  He/she will also prepare study protocols and reports per request, prepare data reports to lab head and give presentations at internal and external meetings

 

 

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Immunology or Cell Biology or Associate’s degree in Biology, Immunology or Cell Biology with 1+ years of laboratory experience in Immunology

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, preferably in Immunology or Cell Biology
  • 3+ years of practical laboratory experience in Immunology or a related field
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience a plus
  • Specific knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas are highly desirable:
  • Immune cell isolation from human whole blood/PBMC
  • Tissue culture, especially human primary cell culture, T regulatory cell culture and functional assessment
  • Cell-based assays: proliferation, cytokine assessment, Flow cytometry 
  • Molecular Biology: Western blotting, DNA/RNA isolation, QPCR
  • Bioanalytical assays: ELISA, or similar assays
  • Laboratory equipment expertise: FACS Aria and Fortessa, autoMACS, Protein Simple
  • Proficient with computer software: Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, BD FACS Diva, Flow Jo
